Week 12: Street Photography in CWB

We went to Causeway Bay to take some street photography. We had a shotlist to tick off as usual-

Portraits - Candid: shots of people going on with their daily lives
Portraits - Ask a stranger: asking a stranger whether or not you can take a photograph of them and basically getting rejected a lot
Rule of thirds: taking photos where the main subject is falling in one of the divisions or on the line
Viewpoint: changing the angle you are getting your shot from- up, down etc.
Diagonals: gives a picture some perspective and makes it look more dynamicPattern: taking pictures of the patterns, textures, shapes and colour which can make a photograph visually compelling
Shadows & Reflections: using light creatively to capture unique patterns
Leading Lines: when subjects in a photograph are placed in a way so that it paves a line for the eye to follow through- typically leading to a subject
Framing: using the natural surroundings to frame your subject
Symmetry: a photograph that looks the same on one side as it does on the other
Photo Essay: capturing images for your photo essay

Week 11: Action Photography

This week, we focused on action photography by going to Sandy Bay as the athletics heats were on, to practice taking photos of people doing sports. I think it was pretty hard since everything happened so quickly and it was hard to get the correct composition where people kept on moving around. It was also my first time shooting in such a sunny environment so getting the best camera settings took a while as well.

This was my shot list:
- Emotions
- The crowd
- The starting line
- The finish line
- The race from a different perspective
- Long or triple jump
- In flight
- Motion

I couldn't get all the things in my shot list like the crowd and the race from a different persepective.

Here are some of my best shots that I took and then edited in Lightroom:

Some things I need to work on is to get a less busy background because as I looked through my pictures, I noticed that my background usually included a lot of other people. Although it is hard to avoid these people in some of my shots, in some photos, I should have at least tried to blur the background so that it won't distract the subject.
